Wayne Rooney eyes Man Utd captaincy

01 October 2011 - 06:38

Wayne Rooney hopes that continued excellent form for club and country will help him one day captain Manchester United and England. Rooney has previously captained his side in the absence of more experienced team mates.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • "I've captained both on one-off occasions but obviously to get the two jobs full-time would be a great honour for me," said Rooney.

The forward has also captained his country once before, in a friendly with Brazil.

However, he hopes that he can one day permanently take on the role for both teams.

Wayne Rooney could feature this weekend after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for United's 3-3 draw with Basel this week.
