Capello backs Rooney despite controversy

Capello backs Rooney despite controversy

07 October 2011 - 06:13

England manager Fabio Capello backs Wayne Rooney to perform in this weekend's crucial Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro. Rooney's father was arrested yesterday as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity.

  • Chelsea suffer big injury blow ahead of Everton game
  • Enzo Fernandez refuses to rule out Chelsea exit
  • Wayne Rooney's father is one of nine men who have been arrested in connection to suspicious bets placed last year. Motherwell player Steve Jennings has also been arrested.

But Capello is sure Rooney will be ready for the big game that would see England qualify for next summer's showpiece tournament.

"He told me 'absolutely no problems'," Capello said. "He is sure this poses no problems."
