Mourinho rejects Portugal link

Mourinho rejects Portugal link

14 October 2011 - 20:24

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has rejected claims that he is looking to manage the Portuguese national team in the future.

  • Chelsea eyeing part-exchange deal to sign Osimhen
  • Chelsea & Arsenal handed blow in Bundesliga striker pursuit

  • Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this week that the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) was interested in having Mourinho as a temporary coach for the Euro 2012 play off tie against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

However Mourinho has poured cold water on these rumours and claims that he has never been approached by the FPF.

"That is one big lie," he told reporters at a press conference. "It does not make sense. It is clear to me, to the federation and to Madrid that it is impossible.

"No-one has thought about it. There has not been any contact and this story should be over already."

He went on to give a fitness report of the squad ahead of the clash against Real Betis this weekend.

"We had some minor problems which forced us to make some changes in previous matches, but right now the 21 players in the squad are fine and none are in doubt," the Portuguese coach added.

"It is true some of them have just recovered from injuries and others, like Karim Benzema, have only had one day's training.

"Others have returned from their respective national teams but, except for Raul Albiol, those international matches were not hard on Madrid, as far as injuries are concerned."
