Berbatov wants more playing time

Berbatov wants more playing time

19 October 2011 - 16:01

Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has said that he would like to get a few more chances after falling down Sir Alex Ferguson's pecking order this season.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Despite finishing last season as joint top scorer with 20 goals, Berbatov has lost his place to Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. He has started only two games this season and was not even named on the bench in many more.

The Bulgarian however claimed that rather than looking for a move, he was willing to work hard to regain his place in the team.

"I want to get more chances because I know I can help the team," Berbatov told reporters.

"I'll continue to give my best to earn my place in the team."

Berbatov also had a word of thanks for the hundreds of Bulgarian supporters who travelled to Romania for the match against Otelul Galati in the hope that he reconsider his international retirement.

"I didn't expect such a reaction. I can't play for the national team if I'm not playing for my club.

"I would like to thank the fans, it was very pleasant. My team-mates wondered what was happening and I had to explain to them [about the noise]."
