Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly stepped up his interest in Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen after a number of less than impressive defensive displays have threatened to derail Arsenal's season.
After conceding an astonishing 21 goals in 10 games, Wenger has made a defensive signing his top priority for winter. Despite Vertonghen being cup-tied in Europe, Wenger believes that the player will help them in their aim to obtain a top four spot.
Any potential deal will include £12 - £15 million in cash and the rest via any of the fringe players in his squad.
