Man United target Schweinsteiger

Man United target Schweinsteiger

14 December 2011 - 11:36

Eyefootball can exclusively reveal that Manchester United are monitoring Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger as a possible midfield reinforcement.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Schweinsteiger is a Bayern Munich youth product, having signed for the German heavyweights in 1998 and moving up the youth ranks to find himself in the first team.

He has gone on to become a mainstay in the Bayern squad, having made at least 30 appearances every season since 2003.

Manchester United are currently missing midfielders Tom Cleverley and Anderson through injury, and central midfield has generally been a position many consider they need to strengthen, following the retirement of Paul Scholes.

Schweinsteiger would be the perfect playmaker type replacement that Sir Alex Ferguson needs and a source has revealed to Eyefootball that Schweinsteiger is one of the players on Ferguson's wish list.

However, a move may fail to materialize this winter as the German international will be cup-tied, after having played for Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Bayern will also be reluctant to sell one of the important members of their team as they look to win the Bundesliga after disappointing last season.

It is believed that a Ferguson will make a £20 million bid in the summer to lure the German international to Old Trafford.
