Roma hero Totti may quit club after 19 years

15 December 2011 - 07:41

Francesco Totti, the club captain of AS Roma, could quit the Italian giants after 19 years service. The former Italian international has spent the majority of the season on the bench and has fallen out with some sections of the club's support.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Roma manager Luis Enrique has initially struggled as manager of Roma, and a number of Italian papers suggested that the Spaniard could face the sack before the end of the year.

Luis Enrique has also taken the brave move to leave Francesco Totti as a substitute, despite the forward's hero status in Rome.

Totti missed a penalty against Juventus in the massive Serie A game this week, and club fans directed abuse at the striker.

"I have been thinking about that [leaving Roma], especially recently. If things continue this way, then I will continue to reflect on that option," admitted Totti.

"If someone thinks I'm the problem, then I can step aside. I am not referring to the coach, the club or team-mates, but rather to a few fans."
