Barcelona to make shocking bid for RVP

Barcelona to make shocking bid for RVP

16 December 2011 - 18:01

Barcelona will reportedly table an audacious bid for Arsenal forward Robin van Persie after it was discovered that David Villa would be out for 6 months after breaking his tibia.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Villa broke his tibia recently in the Club World Cup semi-finals against Al Sadd. His injury seems to have forced Barcelona to look at other alternatives in the market.

Reports in the media suggest that Barcelona have turned their attention to yet another Arsenal captain in Robin van Persie, after signing former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas in the summer of 2011.

van Persie has been in scorching form in 2011, scoring 33 goals in 32 appearances in the Premier League, just three short of Alan Shearer's all time record of 36 goals in a calendar year. With Arsenal having four games left, he may end up surpassing that record soon.

The Dutch international has only 18 months left on his current contract and has refused to talk about his future until the summer. It is believed that the lure of winning silverware may be too much for van Persie to resist.

Barcelona will reportedly make a £20 million bid in winter, and if unsuccessful, will try again in the summer using Seydou Keita in a player plus cash deal for the Arsenal captain.
