Defoe again hints at Tottenham exit

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has again admitted that he may look to leave White Hart Lane if he is unable to secure first team football. The former West Ham striker has been linked with a move to Aston Villa.

  • Spurs' 29 year old forward has found first team football difficult to come by this year, as Emmanuel Adebayor's form has left Defoe on the bench.

Defoe wants to force his way into England's Euro 2012 squad, and has now admitted that a move away from White Hart Lane could be a possibility in the January transfer window, opening in just under two weeks.

"I'm 29, I need to play football. It's as simple as that. There's a tournament in the summer," said the England international.

"I've been lucky enough to play in one tournament for my country. I want to play in one again as I know if I play in a tournament I'll do well.

"I am working hard in the gym. I did a lot of work in the summer to get to this position and I'm not going to waste it by sitting on the bench when I know I should play.

"If I was about 21 I could sit on my hands. But I'm 29 and want to play football now every week."
