Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has personally made a check on Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, as the Red Devils look to finally end their search for a long term replacement for retired midfielder Paul Scholes.
The 18 year old midfielder is considered one of the finest young players in the Eredivisie, and has recently enjoyed an international call up for Denmark.
Manchester United's assistant manager has now confirmed that the club have an interest in the player.
"This is a player that is on our radar," United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen said.
"But that is to be expected. If people weren't looking, no-one would ever have an opinion on these players.
"It is true that a player like Eriksen would fit our transfer policy.
"He is being strongly linked with us, but to suggest that we are about to make a move is not true."
