Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admitted that he would love to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill, but Spurs look set to miss out on the player. Chelsea are leading the race to sign the player who is out of contract during the summer.
Chelsea are believed to have already agreed an 8m GBP fee with Bolton for the England international, and could complete the signing next week.
“I couldn't sit here and say that we wouldn’t be interested in him, of course we would, for sure,” Redknapp said. “But I don't know what the situation is with Chelsea.
“It's difficult trying to beat Chelsea if you're after the same player, let's be honest. Their wage structure would be on a different level to ours so it’s difficult.
“If you're both in for the same player they're probably going to blow you out of the water in the end. It's a difficult one to get involved in.”
