Man Utd boss slams Vieira on Scholes criticism

Man Utd boss slams Vieira on Scholes criticism

24 March 2012 - 05:49

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson slammed Man City's director of football development, Patrick Vieira, after the retired midfielder criticised United for bringing Paul Scholes out of retirement in January.

  • Chelsea want to sign Alejandro Garnacho for £30m?
  • Chelsea agree deal to sign wonderkid for €40m

  • Vieira said in an interview during midweek: "For him [Scholes] to come back just shows a little bit of weakness in United, because they had to bring a player back who was 37."

The title race is sure to heat up over the coming weeks, as both Man Utd and Man City do battle for Premier League glory.

Sir Alex Ferguson defended re-signing Scholes and responded: "If it's desperation bringing back the best midfielder in Britain for the last 20 years then I think we can accept that.

"If you talk about desperation, they played a player the other night who refused to go on the pitch. The manager said he'd never play again and he takes a five-month holiday in Argentina. What is that? Could that come under the description of desperation?"
