Liverpool have already begun their preparations for a busy transfer window, and have made contact with PSV Eindhoven regarding a move for Belgian international winger Dries Mertens.

The highly rated 24 year old left winger is seen as a perfect long term replacement for Dirk Kuyt, and according to a report emanating from the Netherlands, Anfield scouts have been spotted at PSV watching the youngster in action.<br />

Since arriving from Utrecht last summer, Mertens has scored 18 goals in 26 games including an impressive brace during this week.<br />

The 5 foot 7 winger is very highly rated in Holland though, and his club are expected to command a fee as high as 9.2 million Euros should they decide to sell the player.
