28 May 2012 - 01:24

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are expected to open talks with Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers sometime this week, after talks with Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez reportedly stalled.

 • Rodgers is one of the Premier League's hottest managerial talents, and the Northern Irishman is now a surprise target for Liverpool.
Whilst the Reds have been weighing up a move for former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, the Spaniard has told friends that he has no plans to return to football for at least six months, leaving Liverpool short of options for the time being.
Rodgers has been impressive since taking over at the Swans in July 2010, winning an impressive 43 of 96 games with the Welsh side.
In February of this year, Rodgers put pen to paper on a new contract with Swansea until 2015, and reportedly has a release clause of around £4 million.
