David Moyes set for Man Utd job

09 May 2013 - 04:44

David Moyes will today be named as the new Manchester United manager. Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired yesterday, has recommended the Everton manager for several years and the club will turn to the most natural replacement for Fergie.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • Moyes has had 11 trophyless seasons, in comparison with 38 trophies in 26 years for Sir Alex; but the Scotsman is very similar to his predecessor in a number respects. As a youngster, Ferguson wanted to bring Moyes in as his assistant manager but instead Moyes preferred to take the role at Preston North End. From there, he went on to Everton and has ensured year after year that the Goodison Park side stay in the top flight.

Three times named League Managers Association Manager of the Year - like Sir Alex - Moyes has been consistent at the top level but is sure to surprise many fans outside of England with this appointment, as the Everton boss is a relative unknown in other countries.
