Madrid close in on Robben

30 July 2007 - 20:17

Real Madrid are still trying to move closer to sealing the signature of Chelsea winger Arjen Robben. Bernd Schuster has said Robben in his primary target and is already close to sealing the signing of Royston Drenthe. Real Madrid are reportedly ready to pay Chelsea over £20m to get their man.

  • Robben has rejected the 5-year contract on the table, as it does not reach his 6-figure wage expectations. Robben feels that he should be within the same wage bracket as Terry and Lampard and is not happy with the £90,000 on offer.

Jose Mourinho has already stated that he hopes the Dutchman will stay at the club and fight for his place in the first team, but it is believed that this season Shaun Wright Phillips will be getting more first team action than last season.
