Lambert slams Benteke after transfer comments

24 May 2013 - 16:10

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has warned Christian Benteke for comments credited to the striker with the Belgian press. Benteke had told Villa that he would leave his current club if a bigger team came in for his signature.

 • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
 • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
 • His comments failed to impress manager Lambert and the Scottish manager took time on the radio to voice his own concerns.
"Sometimes we've got to have a reality check here," Lambert revealed on TalkSport radio.
"He's just had one of those seasons where he's never been injured and he's never been suspended except the last day.
"He's only a kid starting out and he's going to have ups and downs like everybody else. Once he starts to be involved in 400 or 500 games you might think, 'yeah, he's a good player'.
"It's a unique thing; he's got to remember that he's only 22 years of age - he's got so much to learn.
"This lad's only been in Britain for 10 months. He's got the status at Aston Villa and everybody loves him."
