Lukaku eyes Chelsea first team place

30 May 2013 - 14:27

Romelu Lukaku has told reporters that he expects to be playing in the first team next year if he is to stay at Chelsea. The Belgium international spent last year on loan at West Brom, and has told the press that he must play regularly next year to guarantee a World Cup squad place with his country.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Lukaku is one of the brightest talents in the Premier League but has failed to regularly play in Chelsea's first team since arriving from Anderlecht.

With that in his mind, he has told reporters that he must play regularly in the first team if he is to stay with Chelsea.

“It’s up to me and it’s up the manager as well. I think I have to first have a conversation and to see what his plans are and then, you know, we’ll see from there, but I’m ready to go over there and do my best," said Lukaku.

“It’s always been my first ambition to play over there but I have to be realistic - I’m 20 years old and I need to play, so we’ll see what will happen.

“I’m very proud to be a Chelsea player. I think I’ve had a very good season on loan so now I will go back over there and show my qualities. Hopefully I will stay there but in football you never know, so we’ll see what will happen in the future.”
