Tottenham to bid for Gareth Barry?

13 June 2013 - 14:55

Tottenham are preparing to swoop for Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry with a bid of £4 million. The England international’s future is still dubious with City expected to appoint Manuel Pellegrini in the next couple of days.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town
  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal

  • The Chilean manager will want to stamp his authority on the team and remove any deadwood in the team. This could lead to the ageing midfielder being shown the way out of the door from the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs are reportedly keen to offer him an escape route as they look to replace the inconsistent Scott Parker. Parker had an injury hit season and the arrival of Barry could entice Spurs to sell him to Sunderland.

Barry is seen as a perfect like to like replacement for Scott Parker , with the assurance that he is less fragile. It is assumed that a bid of £4 million would be sufficient to persuade the Citizens to part ways with the former Aston Villa man.

Barry has just one year remaining on his current contract, and it is thought City may well decide to cash in on him rather than allow his to move on a free next season.

Spurs are likely to have a battle with Stoke City whose new manager Mark Hughes’s is a staunch admire of Gareth Barry.
