Everton join race for Ashley Williams

13 June 2013 - 14:56

Everton have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams. The New Everton manager Martinez is a long time admirer of the Welsh stopper and would want a reunion.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • Williams has already been a subject of much speculation having already been linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool after enjoying a great cup winning season with The Swans.

Everton have a number of vacancies at the back with the retirement of Phil Neville and the imminent departure of John Heitinga on the cards, they would now be hoping to persuade him to join at Goodison Park .

Roberto Martinez has great relations with Williams as he was the one who first brought him to Swansea City in 2008 from Stockport County, and he would be hoping to be reunited with the highly sought after centre back.

They will still face stiff competiton from the Gunners who are the favourites to sign Williams as the future of Thomas Vermaelen remains in doubt. The Belgian International has had an injury plagued season and has gone down the pecking order at the Emirates.

Napoli have been linked with Williams, if a move for their number one target Martin Skrtel fails to materialise.
