Arsenal in pole position to capture Higuaín's signature

18 June 2013 - 13:57

Arsenal are in pole position to capture Gonzalo Higuain’s signature from Real Madrid as Juventus have turned their attentions to Manchester City’s forward Carlos Tevez.

 • Chelsea suffer big injury blow ahead of Everton game
 • Enzo Fernandez refuses to rule out Chelsea exit
 • The Serie A champions have had several negotiations with Real Madrid over a move for Higuain but are so far denying to add up to their £18.7m bid for the 25-year-old.
Real Madrid are understood to be asking a fee of atleast £25.5m although President Florentino Perez was quoted last week claiming that the Italian champions offer would be insufficient, sources remain adamant that a deal will be done around that price.
The Gunners have a war chest in excess of £70m to spend and can easily outbid Juventus ,who are now thought to have lowered their sights to cheaper alternatives including Tevez.
The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad and Manchester United would be willing to accept a bid of around £10m instead of allowing him on a free next season.
That leaves Arsenal as the sole serious bidders in their battle to sign Higuain. Arsene Wenger has already tabled a record bid for the club in excess of £20m in attempt to make Higuain , the first major acquisition at Arsenal this summer.
