Liverpool's Pursuit Of Henrikh Mkhitaryan Stalled

21 June 2013 - 13:55

Liverpool’s prospective big signing from Shakhtar Dontesk has taken quite a setback after questions arise over Mkhitaryan’s ownership.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Russian news agency Tass had earlier reported on Thursday that the player was set to fly to Merseyside for a medical, following which officials from Anfield were quick to dismiss the suggestions hinting towards the ownership issues raised during the negotiation process.

It was understood, earlier, that the Reds had secured the summer move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan by negotiating a deal with his club Shakhtar Donetsk, for around 23million pounds. But as it turns out, the Ukrainians hold only a portion of the Armenia international’s rights.

It has been revealed that the club shares his rights with a business group that invested in the player. This arrangement is common in Eastern Europe and South America. The Kop manager Brendan Rodgers has found this complex ownership issue elusive to deal with, even though Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been one of the most awaited signings for Liverpool.

Mkhitaryan’s plan to fly to England for a medical on Thursday has been put on a hold until the new hurdles in his signing are tackled.

A spokesman said: “There are no plans for a medical for the player.”
