Manchester United have launched an opening bid for Everton’s full-back Leighton Baines, as reported by The Times.
David Moyes, who was also Baines’ former boss at Goodison Park, has strongly been linked with a move for Everton’s player of the year. The source quotes the bid to be in the range of £10m-£12m and it would be interesting to see if it is enough to tempt the Toffees to sell their star defender.
It was earlier reported that Everton boss, Roberto Martinez, was willing to offer Baines a more lucrative deal in order to lure him into staying at the club. Baines has also revealed his willingness to stay put at Goodison Park but an offer from a club like Manchester United may entice him to push for an exit. United would also provide him a chance to experience the Champions League football.
Moyes may target Baines as a replacement plan for Patrice Evra, who has struggled for form recently. There are chances that Moyes may sell the 32-year-old to his former club Monaco.
