Maicon Would Like To Stay At City Says Roberto Calenda

27 June 2013 - 20:22

Maicon’s agent Roberto Calenda reveals that his client would prefer to stay at Manchester City next season, despite the departure of his former boss Roberto Mancini.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • The 31-year-old moved to the Etihad Stadium from Inter Milan under his former Inter boss, last summer. The Brazilian has been pestered with a combination of injuries and with a stiff competition from Pablo Zabaleta, he could make only seven starts for his club.<br />

Despite Maicon’s dispiriting situation at City, his agent Calenda insists his client’s desire to stay at the club and make an impression at the Etihad Stadium so as to secure a spot in the Brazil squad for the World Cup next year. The defender has not played for Brazil since 2011.<br />

In his talks with Radio Sportiva, Calenda said, “He has had an unfortunate season, it can happen”<br />

"Now he wants to prove his worth in a Manchester City jersey and achieve the World Cup's call with Brazil."<br />

Italian outfit Roma have also been linked with a move for Maicon but his agent believes that the financial situations of the Italian clubs would not make this deal feasible.<br />

"Interest from Roma? Italian football is going through a bad time economically so it is difficult to take players with this kind of salary."
