Micah Richards a shock target for Liverpool

Micah Richards a shock target for Liverpool

03 July 2013 - 13:13

Manchester City defender Micah Richards, who is currently locked in talks with the club over a brand new contract, is a target for Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers is ready to hijack City's new contract talks with the defender.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Man City were hopeful that a new contract would be agreed with Richards before the beginning of July, but it is understood that the right back wants assurances from his current club that he will be an important member of the first team for the upcoming season.

On the other hand, he could well be given a chance to prove himself as a regular first team player at Anfield as Liverpool reportedly made an enquiry for the player.

At City, Richards is currently playing second fiddle to Spanish full back Pablo Zabaleta. At Liverpool, Richards would be brought in as a long term replacement for Jamie Carragher, who retired last year, and would also be played as a centre back. It is understood that the defender himself is eager to eventually start playing in the middle of defence.
