Pique Says Selling Messi Not An Option

03 July 2013 - 22:30

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has contradicted Johan Cruyff, who believes Barcelona should give a thought to selling Lionel Messi, since they have already secured the services of Neymar.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The centre-back strongly disagrees with Cruyff this time and in a typical Barcelona spirit states that Messi is the best player in the world. Pique stresses that selling the Argentine ace is far beyond imagination as he continues to be the most important player for the club.

Barcelona icon Johan Cruyff recently suggested the Catalans to cash in on the star striker as they have already secured the Brazilian striker Neymar. But the prolific forward who has scored over 200 Liga goals since joining Barcelona has the support of Pique and other Barcelona players.

    Pique said to Sport:

"We always listen to what Johan has to say here at Barcelona because of everything he has done for the club as a player and a coach”

"He often brings something positive to the club, but in this case I think it's clear that Messi is untouchable.

"Messi is the best player in the world and he has brought so much to the club. It would be inconceivable that he would not be here.

"The team should be built around him as it's been in recent years. We all know how important he is and it would be foolish not to use him. It would not make any sense not to use the best player in the world."
