Fulham in surprise bid for Walter Gargano

23 July 2013 - 13:39

Fulham manager Martin Jol has contacted Italian giants Napoli regarding a potential move for defensive midfielder Walter Gargano. The Uruguayan international has spent last year on loan at Inter Milan but is now likely to be sold by Napoli ahead of the new season.

  • Fulham have been busy in the transfer window and already signed Derek Boateng for their midfield, but it is understood that Jol hopes to add at least one more player before the end of the transfer window at the end of August.

Gargano, who played in Uruguay's team in the 2010 World Cup, has played for Napoli since 2007 and has one more year left on his current contract with Rafa Benitez's side. The new manager at Napoli told Gargano that he would not be a part of his plans for the coming season.

Last year at Inter, Gargano played in 36 games and impressed in defensive midfield, now Fulham hope to complete a permanent transfer for the 28-year-old.
