Newcastle winning race to sign Darren Bent

Newcastle are hopeful that they will be able to complete a deal for Darren Bent. The England international is unwanted by his current club Aston Villa and Fulham have officially pulled out of the race for the Aston Villa frontman.

  • Newcastle want to sign Bent as a replacement for Demba Ba, who left last January. Bent currently earns a reported £80,000 a week at Villa Park and is prepared to take a small paycut to make the move to St James' Park. Newcastle have been locked in talks with Aston Villa for over 2 weeks for Bent, but have yet to agree a fee for the player.<br />

    The forward is in demand though, with several other team also ready to trump Newcastle's latest offer for the player.
