Hulk insists Arsenal target Bernard to join Porto

29 July 2013 - 00:46

The Gunners could yet suffer further disappointment in their pursuit for Atletico Mineiro star Bernard. The player's father confirmed that Brazilian International compatriot Hulk had convinced Bernard to join Primeira Liga giants Porto in order to develop his talents.

Arsenal have yet to make a formal bid for the Brazilian according to reports from Portugal. Speaking to O Jogo, Bernard's father, Delio Duarte, said: "Nothing is decided yet but we know there is interest from Arsenal. However, there has been nothing official from them."

Duarte added: "Hulk has convinced Bernard that Porto would be better for him at this stage of his career."

Arsenal were considered as favourites for Bernard's signature after the player begrudgingly accepted he may leave Atletico Mineiro, but the Gunners have yet to bid a fee in the region of £22m to sign the player.

Bernard looks likely to leave Atletico Mineiro this summer, but the only question that's presently in everyone's mind will be, as to where he would be switching to!

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Arsenal may have to wait to formalise a move as they are still on the verge of selling off their out-of-favour winger Gervinho, who earns £50,000 a week at the Emirates.
