Liverpool look all set to win the race for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, who has also been tracked by Arsenal. It has been suggested by a report in Sports Direct News that the deal could be sealed by Monday.
There were speculations suggesting the deal could be delayed by complications arising from third-party ownership of the concerned player but it has been claimed that the rights of Costa have been purchased in their entirety by Atletico in 2010.
It had been reported earlier that Liverpool have placed a £21m bid for the 24-year-old that has triggered his release clause and a deal could be agreed on soon. If Diego puts pen to paper on the offered deal, he would be the fifth summer signing for Brendan Rodgers’ side following the arrivals of Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet.
Following the departure of Radamel Falcao to Monaco, Costa was expected to lead the attacking line for Atletico but with the new signing of David Villa, Simeone could let him leave the club for a suitable fee.
Costa has managed to score 28 goals in 80 appearances for the Liga outfit.
