Arsene Wenger is yet to find the right player

18 August 2013 - 14:25

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to add new players to the squad this summer but heavily criticised his players for the team's loss in the season opener last night.

  • Arsenal to hijack Chelsea deal for English winger?
  • Arsenal & Chelsea battling to sign Ajax defender

  • Arsenal slumped to a surprise 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa and also had defender Laurent Koscielny sent off. The fans had become terribly upset with the team's performance and launched an attack on Arsene Wenger's inability to bring in new players.

However, the Frenchman has refused to take blame for his side's showing and has urged his players to improve their performance in their next game.

Wenger said: "Why isn't it being spent. I can return your question. Why isn't it being won by the players on the pitch?

"We do not spend the money because we do not find the players. I am not the only one for that.

"We have a team that works on that and if they are not ready then that is good enough for us.

"I am disappointed when our fans are not happy, but we haven't lost a game because of our performance.

"We are in the market to buy players. Everybody knows, but until we do we have to win games."
