Tottenham have moved a step closer to finding a replacement for Real Madrid bound Gareth Bale, after reportedly agreeing a fee with Anzhi for the transfer of Brazilian star Willian. The Russian side have accepted a reported £30 million bid from Spurs.
With Gareth Bale's on/off transfer to Real Madrid seemingly set to continue through until the end of the transfer window, Spurs' coach Andre Villas-Boas will not take any chances and has plumped for the signing of Willian this week.
The Russian side Anzhi are being forced to sell off their best players after a cost cutting programme and Willian appears to be the first player heading for the exit door.
The 25-year-old has previously indicated that he would like to make a move to England, indicating that is where his future lie. The Brazilian is also hoping to capitalise on the arrival of the likes of fellow countryman Paulinho in the Premier League to help him push for a place in Brazil's World Cup squad next summer.
Liverpool were in pole position to sign Willian; but their manager Brendan Rodgers is not convinced that Willian is the man to improve his squad.
