Marseille beat French side Valenciennes

26 August 2013 - 01:41

Olympique Marseille maintained their 100 percent start to the Ligue 1 by beating Valenciennes with a goal to nothing.

 • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
 • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
 • Andre Pierre Gignac scored his third goal in as many matches as his side struggled to beat a brave Valenciennes side. Andrew Ayew nearly broke the deadlock in the first half with a header, only for it to be excellently tipped away by Valenciennes' keeper Nicolas Penneteau.
Steve Mandanda kept Jean Christophe Bahebeck's close range shot away to keep the game a goalles draw, until Gignac scored the winner 6 minutes from time after pouncing on a rebound from an Ayew header, after a corner.
Marseille top the Ligue 1 now, ahead of St Etienne and Olympique Lyonnais.
