Everton make bid for Davide Astori

02 September 2013 - 14:23

Italian source Corriere dello Sport are reporting that Everton have made a bid for Cagliari defender Davide Astori. The 26-year-old is one of several targets on transfer deadline day for Everton, who will soon have a large sum of money to spend on new acquisitions if the sale of Marouane Fellaini goes through this afternoon.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The centre back, who has been on Cagliari's books since 2008, has appeared five times for the Italian national team and is very highly rated in his homeland. The 6 foot 2 defender spent his youth career with AC Milan.

Everton already have the likes of Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin, both of whom have performed admirably so far this season, but the Toffees are looking for a long term replacement for Distin who could retire at the end of this season. Cagliari will reportedly accept any bids greater than 6.5 million Euros.
