Chelsea have made an enquiry for Lazar Markovic, the 19-year-old Serbian international currently playing for Portuguese giants Benfica. The winger joined his current club in June but has already been linked with a move away.
According to a report from Portugal, Chelsea were one of two teams alongside Benfica hoping to sign Markovic from Partizan in June. The player agreed terms with Benfica before Chelsea even had an offer accepted and the youngster found himself on a plane to Portugal. This angered Jose Mourinho who had plans to bring the 19-year-old to Stamford Bridge and send him on loan for two seasons
Mourinho, fresh from the transfer window closure on September 2nd, has already started drawing up a list of new transfer targets for January. Markovic appears to be one of those mentioned.
Benfica are ready to listen to any offers for the player but are expected to demand a fee of around 12 million Euros for Markovic.
