Olympique Lyon chairman Jean Michel Aulas has admitted that he is relieved and delighted to have kept wantaway striker Bafetimbi Gomis at the club.

 • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
 • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
 • The French striker has been constantly linked with a move away this summer. A host of premier league clubs including Newcastle United were believed to be interested in securing his services but the deal could not go through as Aulas refused to climb down from his initial evaluation of the striker.
Aulas now admits that Gomis has a key part to play in Lyon's season and is almost like a new signing at the Stade Gerland.
"We have to consider him as a reinforcement and I am convinced he could be a key reinforcement," Aulas told L'Equipe.
"I am happy he is with us. The club needs him."
