Roma open talks for out of favour Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby

14 September 2013 - 07:54

German midfielder Lewis Holtby is a target for Italian side AS Roma. The Serie A giants want to sign Holtby on loan having lost some of their best midfield players in the transfer window just passed; it is understood Roma are hoping to use the relationship built in the transfer deal seeing Erik Lamela join Spurs as a way to secure a loan deal for Holtby.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Since arriving from Schalke 04 back in January, Holtby has struggled to force his way into Tottenham's first team on a regular basis whilst this summer's signings of Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen appear to limit the chances of regular action for the German midfielder.

His former club Schalke 04 were also linked with a move for the midfielder back in August, but Holtby told his agent that he has no interest in a return to Germany and would prefer to play in the Premier League.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia is hopeful that a deal can be wrapped up for Holtby soon in a deal that would see the German move to Italy on loan for the remainder of the season.
