Ancelotti heaps praise on Bale after debut goal

15 September 2013 - 15:27

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti lavished praise on their latest signing Gareth Bale who moved from Tottenham this summer for a world record transfer fee.

  • Chelsea leading race to sign £70m Brazilian star
  • The Welsh winger scored the first goal in a Real Madrid shirt yesterday during their 2-2 draw against Villareal. The 24 year old, who was largely a quiet figure during the game, scored Madrid's equaliser at the 39th minute after Villareal had already scored.<br />

Bale was brought off around the hour mark as he is yet to regain total match fitness having missed out on the pre season through injuries.<br />

"I think he's happy to score his first goal for Real Madrid," Ancelotti told a press conference.<br />

"He played in a difficult match and he played well, showing his good attitude. It was a hard match for everyone."<br />

The Real boss defended his decision to bring off Bale and another debutante Illaramendi saying it's not wise to play them the full match on their debuts.<br />

"They played well. Their performances were good.<br />

"I didn't play them for the full 90 minutes because in the first match it isn't a good idea, so after an hour I took them off."
