Ancelotti heaps praise on Bale after debut goal

15 September 2013 - 15:27

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti lavished praise on their latest signing Gareth Bale who moved from Tottenham this summer for a world record transfer fee.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • The Welsh winger scored the first goal in a Real Madrid shirt yesterday during their 2-2 draw against Villareal. The 24 year old, who was largely a quiet figure during the game, scored Madrid's equaliser at the 39th minute after Villareal had already scored.

Bale was brought off around the hour mark as he is yet to regain total match fitness having missed out on the pre season through injuries.

"I think he's happy to score his first goal for Real Madrid," Ancelotti told a press conference.

"He played in a difficult match and he played well, showing his good attitude. It was a hard match for everyone."

The Real boss defended his decision to bring off Bale and another debutante Illaramendi saying it's not wise to play them the full match on their debuts.

"They played well. Their performances were good.

"I didn't play them for the full 90 minutes because in the first match it isn't a good idea, so after an hour I took them off."
