Hart the hero for Man City

Hart the hero for Man City

11 November 2007 - 19:28

Joe Hart was the hero as the talented young goalkeeper made a string of top class saves to keep Portsmouth at bay at Fratton Park. The match finished 0-0, but Man City were lucky to head home with a point.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Man City would've been happy with a point, as the two sides that have punched well above their weight this year continue to keep up the pressure at the top.

Harry Redknapp's men flew out of the traps, with Benjani heading over the bar, Hart saving a fierce Kanu strike and Sean Davis steering a shot just off target in the first three minutes.

Hart then kept out a low Glen Johnson strike on 20 minutes, with City's only first-half chance a blocked shot from midfielder Gelson.

After the break, City started brightly and Martin Petrov's left-wing cross into the dangerzone found Darius Vassell, who fluffed the chance.

Petrov's drive was well saved by David James, who also did well to block Elano's low shot, but Pompey piled the pressure on in the closing stages.

Sub David Nugent saw a deflected 20-yard superb piledriver beat Hart but hit the post on 72 minutes - and the keeper was in the thick of the action again soon after, parrying Johnson's drilled effort to earn his side a point.
