Valencia to make £25million bid for Chelsea star Mata

29 September 2013 - 08:32

Spanish side Valencia are to make a £25million bid for former player Juan Mata in the January transfer window. Mata has so far been confined to just substitute appearances under new manager Jose Mourinho, and the Spaniard is ready to return to his former club in search of regular football.

  • With the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Manchester United all interested in the Spain international; Chelsea's manager Jose Mourinho is believed to have decided that he will not sell any of his star players to rival clubs.

Mourinho has so far preferred playing Brazilian youngster Oscar in the playmaking role, leaving Mata furious and in regular contact with his agent regarding a possible move away from Stamford Bridge.

Valencia representatives are already discussing their first move for the player and it is understood that £25million could be enough to persuade Chelsea to sell. The Blues paid £23.5million back in 2011 for Mata, so would make a small profit on the player that helped them to a Champions League and Europa League title.
