Arsene Wenger praises Arsenal's first half display

02 October 2013 - 03:25

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the Gunners first-half display against Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

 • Chelsea open to selling midfielder for £100m amid Real Madrid interest
 • Xabi Alonso to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool?
 • Early goals from Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud sealed a 2-0 victory for the Gunners over Napoli in a Champions League encounter at the Emirates Stadium, which took the North London outfit to the top of Group F with six points.
The Frenchman told BBC Sport: "I felt that we played at a good pace, technically very direct and finished with great goals.
"The first half was outstanding. The second half we played more with maturity, less with drive going forward, a bit more cautious, but overall and outstanding game.
"The first half was amazing, absolutely fantastic. Everything was in there, all that you dream to see when you come to watch football. We were solid.
"[Mathieu] Flamini and [Mikel] Arteta contributed to that, and overall it was positive because I wanted Flamini to be very good on the counter-attack, especially with [Aaron] Ramsey, and that worked very well."
