Chelsea manager Mourinho made bid for Lampard whilst at Inter

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told reporters that he once tried to sign the Blues' midfielder Frank Lampard whilst he was in charge at Inter Milan. The Serie A giants reportedly tabled a mega money offer for the England international.

  • Chelsea's record goalscorer was a shock target for Inter Milan three years ago and Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he very nearly signed the 35-year-old.

Lampard has so far stayed loyal to Chelsea, despite his contract nearing expiration last year; and has since decided to stay at Stamford Bridge for at least another year.

Mourinho confirmed that he once tried to bring Lampard to the San Siro: "It was close, very, very close. When he eventually turned me down I told him he had made the right decision. He is Chelsea. This is where he belongs."

Lampard has been an important member of Chelsea's squad this season under Mourinho despite falling out of favour last season under former manager Rafa Benitez.
