Stoke City chairman Peter Coates dismisses Asmir Begovic exit talks

27 November 2013 - 14:16

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has denied reports linking Bosnia-Herzegovina goalkeeper Asmir Begovic with a move to Manchester City during the January transfer window, insisting that he wants the player to stay until the end of the current season.

  • Man Utd eyeing move for Chelsea defensive duo?
  • Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Newcastle, Rashford starts

  • The 26-year-old has been associated with a £15m move to Manchester City during the New Year, which would include a temporary loan switch for Joe Hart to the Potters.

"This latest story was certainly news to me and I suspect it is just a bit of speculation," Coates said. "That's my guess, anyway, and we have certainly had no approach.

"It is important we keep him for the rest of the season. It is an important season and he is a key player. He certainly hasn't made any noises."

Asmir Begovic signed for Stoke City from League Two side Portsmouth in 2010.
