Argentina and Colombia win

18 November 2007 - 17:36

Paraguay and Colombia continued their impressive World Cup 2010 qualification campaign with wins, whilst Argentina grabbed a 3-0 win over Bolivia to continue their 100 per cent record.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Sergio Aguero had his first competitive international start and also his first goal for Argentina, heading in after Martin Demichelis headed the ball back across goal from a Carlos Tevez cross.

Early in the 2nd half, Riquelme saw a free-kick tipped over by Arias in the opponents goal, but returned moments later to send a dead-ball curling in off the inside of the post, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Riquelme got his second and Argentina's third with 15 mins left after a brilliant run from the half way line by Lionel Messi, who put the ball on a plate for Riquelme to calmly curl home and secure the victory.

Paraguay beat Ecuador 5-1 to continue their great start to the qualifiers. A double strike from Christian Riveros, along with single goals from Haedo Valdez, Roque Santa Cruz and Nestor Ayala gave them a comfortable victory, with Ivan Kaviedes getting Ecuador's consolation effort. Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez resigned after the game.

Colombia, on the other hand, left it late to defeat Venezuela in Bogota, with a Ruben Dario Bustas strike, 10 mins from time, to give them victory in a tough match.
