Tottenham make bid for Man City defender Joleon Lescott

03 January 2014 - 00:05

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood wants to sign Manchester City's out of favour centre back Joleon Lescott. The England international has just six months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Spurs manager Sherwood is hopeful that he can secure the signing of Lescott on a cut price deal and the talented centre back will add extra competition for places at White Hart Lane, where the newly appointed boss is concerned that Tottenham are conceding too many goals.

Lescott is desperate to play regularly prior to the summer's World Cup tournament and impress sufficiently so that England manager Roy Hodgson calls the former Everton man up for the campaign.

Tottenham are believed to have already made an enquiry for Lescott and there appears to be some suggestion that a deal will be wrapped up in the coming weeks.
