David Moyes' plans to bring in new faces this January have received a boost after reports from Spain suggests that Man Utd have moved a step closer to agreeing a loan deal for Fabio Coentrao.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • The left sided defender, who has long been seen as a potential successor for current first choice defender Patrice Evra, almost completed a deal to Old Trafford last season but the two clubs were unable to agree a fee.

Coentrao has long hoped to one day move to England and United's manager David Moyes has reopened talks with Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid regarding a potential loan switch seeing the Portuguese international move to Old Trafford.

United are hoping to also include a clause in the contract that will allow them to activate a permanent transfer deal once the season is over.

Coentrao's agent, Jorge Mendes, has remained in close contact with Man Utd since the last transfer deal fell through and according to the Telegraph, the agent has told United that the Portuguese player is ready to transfer this January.
