Arsenal set to agree double deal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he is closing in on a sensational double deal to agree a new contract for both Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna. Sagna's deal expires this summer whilst Mertesacker's current deal has just 18 months remaining.

The first team defensive duo had been locked in talks with the Gunners for over a year but there remains some uncertainty over their long term future after talks stalled back in December.<br />

However, Arsene Wenger today hinted that both players might be ready to agree fresh contracts at the Emirates: "We are making good progress, and hopefully we can announce something soon."
