Sunderland have successfully completed the signing of Argentine defender Santiago Vergini on a temporary basis from Atletico Fenix for the rest of the season, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.
The Black Cats boss Gus Poyet was understood to be tracking the defender since the past month, with the player keen on making a switch to the Premier League.
Having signed full-back Marcos Alonso on loan from Serie A club Fiorentina earlier this month, the Black Cats have secured the services of the one-time Argentine international, in an attempt to beat the drop from the Premier League this season.
Vergini joined Atletico Fenix from Newell's Old Boys in 2013.
