The reports claims that manager Arsene Wenger failed to land the services of the talented England international during the summer on loan, with Manchester City not keen on allowing their veteran star join a Premier League title rival.



However, the Frenchman is still a huge admirer of the 32-year-old's talents and is hopeful of signing him ahead of Everton, who has also been linked with a permanent move.



Gareth Barry has been in top form for the Toffees on loan this term and has scored 3 goals in 19 Premier League games.
