Napoli eye move for Thomas Vermaelen

Vermaelen attracts Napoli interest

Napoli eye move for Thomas Vermaelen

23 March 2014 - 11:13

Napoli are understood to be interested in signing Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal in the summer, according to The Mirror.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The report claims that Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is eager to secure the services of the former Ajax star in order to enhance the club's chances of winning the Serie A title next season.

The 28-year-old has failed to make any impact in the Gunners' setup this season, with manager Arsene Wenger sticking with the central defensive partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, who have been excellent all throughout the campaign.

Vermaelen is now keen on playing regular football at a different club and Napoli could well sign him up in the summer, should the Gunners receive an appreciable fee for the Belgian international.
